The Ionics EPQ+ upgrade is a two stage upgrade which significantly improves both MS and MS/MS sensitivity of an API 2000 providing MS/MS performances exceeding those of an API 3000.
The first stage upgrade involves changes on the interface between the turboionspray source and the analyser region of the mass spectrometer. Pumping efficiency together with ion transfer optics are improved providing a sensitivity increase of a factor of 3-4 in MS and MS/MS modes.
The second stage of the upgrade consists of replacing the collision cell with a modified collision cell which is 100% efficient, providing an additional 3-4 fold increase in sensitivity in MS/MS mode.
The two upgrades combined in the EPQ+ upgrade provide improvements in MS/MS sensitivoty of between 9 and 16 fold, exceeding the MS/MS performance levels of the larger API 3000.
The upgrade is performed on site with the minimum of instrument downtime. All MS methods originating from pre-upgraded systems should run with either no method modifications or only minor modifications. avoiding the need for method re-development.
